Telangana Election Results 2018: K Chandrashekar Rao of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) on Monday comfortably retained power in the country’s youngest state with a two-third majority. Both the Maha Kutami comprising Congress, TDP, TJS and CPI, and the BJP failed to dent in the ruling TRS’s popularity. According to the Election Commission’s website, the TRS won 88 seats against 63 seats it had won in 2014. The AIMIM won 7 seats. The Congress bagged just 19 seats against 21 in 2014. The TDP of Chandrababu Naidu won 2 seats. The TDP had contested elections in an alliance with Congress. The BJP won just 1 seat.

With a brute majority for second consecutive term, the TRS chief now has a big task in his hand. The TRS had in manifesto promised reservation for Muslims, providing safe drinking water, farm loan waiver,  irrigation projects, 2 BHK-house for people. Interestingly, after the result was announced on Monday, KCR told reporters that he will now play an active role in the national politics and pitched for a non-Congress and non-BJP government in 2019, a move backed by Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM.
